Carrie Owen Plietz was appointed WellStar Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer – Hospital Division in February 2016. She currently oversees operations for all of WellStar’s 11 hospital locations as well as all real estate, construction and facilities development, security and emergency preparedness throughout Wellstar Health System.

Owen Plietz joined Wellstar Health System from Sutter Health in Sacramento, Calif., where she served as CEO of Sutter Medical Center. Under her leadership, SMCS achieved its highest physician satisfaction, employee satisfaction and patient satisfaction in its history. SMCS completed its master site plan construction project totaling over $825M including a full replacement facility, fully renovated Sutter General Hospital, Capital Pavilion Medical Office Building and Surgery Center, and miscellaneous medical office buildings, parking garages and housing projects

Carrie Owen Plietz joined Mills-Peninsula Health Services as chief operating officer in August 2008 after nine years at Sutter Health’s California Pacific Medical Center, where she served as chief administrative officer and vice president of operations for specialty services.

Owen Plietz received a Masters Degree in health administration and a fellowship in health law at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia Campus and an undergraduate degree in health administration with honors from James Madison University.

She currently serves on the American College of HealthCare Executives Board of Governors serving 40,000 members. She has been honored as one of Modern Healthcares Up and Comers 2011, Becker’s Top 25 executives under 40 for five consecutive years and the 2010 Robert S. Hudgens Young Health Care Executive of the Year by the American College of Healthcare Executives.

She lives in Marietta, Ga. with her husband and two children.
