We have some great opportunities coming up for fellowship and promoting membership in the Rotary Club of Dunwoody!
Plan to join us! And bring a friend!
Join us this Friday at the Embassy Suites to welcome Debbie Cwalina, Roswell Rotarian and creator of Be THE Voice. Debbie is the owner and founder of Creative Corporate Ideas Inc., a certified Woman Owned Business (WBE). She started her company in 1993 and has received recognition as a Top Woman Owned Small Business in the state of Georgia.
In the Fall of 2014, looking for a place to make a difference, Debbie joined the Roswell Rotary Club. Not long after her induction, she came across an article highlighting the rise in tween suicides linked to cyberbullying. Having witnessed the social struggles of a sibling during her own upbringing, she was deeply moved by the tragic reality that children were taking their own lives to escape torment. This sparked a passion within her, which laid the groundwork for the creation of Be THE Voice. [more]
If you've attended one of the club's general meeting's during the past couple years, then you've met Meredith who is the first friendly face greeting members and guests. She manages our Laws of Life raffle and embodies the Rotary spirit of community service. She is pictured below (right) with Alison at the welcome table.
Meredith is approaching her two-year anniversary with the club. She loves the unity of Rotary doing good for the community. Her father was a long-time Rotarian and she carries his Montblanc pen with her to remind her to continue his legacy. She has worked in the education field for 28 years, spending time at two public schools and two private schools before becoming a private tutor seven years ago. She works individually with 10-20 private students at a time and although she keeps vampire hours to work with her international students, she loves the flexibility and connecting with students over time. Sometimes she gets to meet her students in person for the first time after providing 2-3 years of online tutoring with them.
Meredith sees herself as a global citizen of the world and
loves studying languages (as her car's license plate "SHXPER"
suggests), other cultures, and travel. Oh, and she is the host mom for our 2024-25 GRSP student - Nguyen Hoa from Vietnam - so be ready to say "yes" when she asks you to show her new-found daughter what living in Georgia and being a Rotarian is all about!
Do you know a family member, neighbor, or friend who might be interested in joining our fabulous volunteer team? Participation is fun and rewarding - offering joy to our friends and a needed break for caregivers. The day includes games, exercise and yoga, lunch, sometimes artwork like the seascape shown here ... and so much more.
If you're interested, consider our next volunteer training - scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 10am-12noon. If you can help us spread the word to your faith or civic community, please do. Mary Cohen is happy to speak to anyone personally.
Here's a link to register.
