Yemariam Workneh hails from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and is studying at Oglethorpe University. Her GRSP story is a little different from our students in the past because Yemariam was selected from Oglethorpe's new student population, rather than from students applying directly through GRSP. While our GRSP scholarships in the past have been cultural scholarships, this year's scholarship is both academic and cultural. Yemariam has just completed her first semester at Oglethorpe, where she plans to complete her undergraduate degree in International Studies. And, she has enjoyed the typical GRSP experience - with host family Tim and Amy Le, and as a participant in all the GRSP weekends to date!
Yemariam graduated high school from the Addis Global Academy last year. She sings, plays basketball, and was president of the Community Service Club.
We'll let her tell you the rest of her story this Friday!
Mark your calendar and join us at Marlow’s Tavern on 2/20/20 starting at 5:30pm for a very special Thirsty Thursday membership social. Equally important - bring a friend, family member or business associate who you'd like to introduce to the Rotary Club of Dunwoody! It's our part of a special Rotary Zone 34 "Leap Into Rotary" membership initiative. Events will be taking place near Leap Year Day in Georgia, Florida and throughout the Caribbean to introduce new people to the value of Rotary!
For this event, the club will buy you and any potential member a drink. Hors d’oeuvres will also be provided by the club.
We plan to advertise this event - and to display information on our activities and projects in the community, and have members there to discuss the joy of working together to make our community even better. Invite your family, friends and prospective Rotarians to join us. Let’s all Leap into Rotary this leap year. This event will be funded by the refund from District 6900 related to excess funds from the International Convention a few years back and a matching grant from District 6900 for this event.
Please contact Cathie Brumfield 404 668 6693 with any questions or if you'd like to help tell Rotary's story that evening.
This year's Governor's Ball will take place on March 28 at the Dunwoody Country Club! As we all know, this is our major fundraiser to support our good work in the community and around the world! We need your help in a variety of ways:
Dunwoody Rotary is once again volunteering as volunteer advisors at Junior Achievement's BizTown and JA Finance Park at the downtown Atlanta JA Discovery Center. This year our dates are February 3 and February 4. We arrive early in the morning and spend the day with students from Peachtree Charter Middle School.
JA BizTown creates an unmatched experience where 6th grade students are able to interact within a simulated economy and take on the challenge of fueling a business. And JA Finance Park, 7th and 8th grade students have the rare opportunity to experience their personal financial futures first-hand - creating a budget, looking for housing, buying a car, and seeing the financial impact of having technical training or college studies beyond high school. As volunteers, we lend our life and business experiences to the overall process.
It's a lot of fun and a great contribution to the future of the youth in our community!
