Dunwoody Rotary is once again volunteering as volunteer advisors at Junior Achievement's BizTown and JA Finance Park at the downtown Atlanta JA Discovery Center. This year our dates are February 3 and February 4. We arrive early in the morning and spend the day with students from Peachtree Charter Middle School.
JA BizTown creates an unmatched experience where 6th grade students are able to interact within a simulated economy and take on the challenge of fueling a business. And JA Finance Park, 7th and 8th grade students have the rare opportunity to experience their personal financial futures first-hand - creating a budget, looking for housing, buying a car, and seeing the financial impact of having technical training or college studies beyond high school. As volunteers, we lend our life and business experiences to the overall process.
It's a lot of fun and a great contribution to the future of the youth in our community!

At our January Board meeting, we officially approved a donation of at least $5,000 from the Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund to the Dunwoody Police Foundation in support of the launch of the K-9 unit for the Dunwoody Police Department. This donation will help expedite the launch of this important crime-fighting capability for the Dunwoody Police Department. Funding will help acquire and train two K-9s and prepare of two officers who will be trained as K-9 handlers.
At our meeting two weeks ago, several Dunwoody Rotarians pledged additional funds - and to date we have collected almost another $5,000 in individual contributions. We now have a goal of donating at least $10,000 to this initiative - between Charitable Fund and individual donations. It's not too late for you to participate! Checks should be made payable to the Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund, memo “DPD K-9” - we are asking to have all contributions no later than Friday, January 31.
If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Brandt at Kgbrandt1@comcast.net or 404-797-0705.
This year's Governor's Ball will take place on March 28 at the Dunwoody Country Club! As we all know, this is our major fundraiser to support our good work in the community and around the world! We need your help in a variety of ways:
This past Thursday, we had a record 27 Rotarians and friends attend our latest Thirsty Thursday. People started showing up around 5:30 with many staying until 7 PM. Thirsty Thursday is a regular event that happens on the third Thursday of each month. It is held on the porch at Marlowe's Tavern in Dunwoody. Club members along with their spouse and friends get together to socialize and catch up on what is happening in each other's lives. [more]
