Join us at 11 a.m. at the Dunwoody Country Club for the best gathering of the year for the Dunwoody Family of Rotary. Catch up with friends in the social hour that starts us off, then enjoy the sounds of the Dresden Sunshine Choir. And don't forget an unwrapped gift for Toys for Tots. Please RSVP through the calendar on the website or by contacting Ardy Bastien this week.
Dresden students have entertained us at the Holiday Luncheon for more than 15 years ... part of a long partnership in education that still includes a book for every child during the holiday student and has included English as a Second Language classes for parents, Character Education, Junior Achievement, citizenship awards and a joint project between students and Rotarians to collect coats and other items for the Atlanta Women and Children Day Shelter.
In keeping with our Holiday Luncheon traditions, we will recognize people for their recent contributions to The Rotary Foundation and present the report of our nominating committee for the 2020-21 Rotary Year.
For many years, Dunwoody Rotarians have been very generous in supporting local Marines in their Toys for Tots Drive. We want to make this the best year ever! So look for toys, bikes and games and bring them to the Holiday luncheon on December 13! With your generosity, we can make this holiday season the best yet for needy local youth!
This Thanksgiving, we helped ensure that 82 families of the students at Kingsley Elementary School in Dunwoody received a Harvest Basket gift of food. In the spirit of sharing at Thanksgiving, the school children decorated the baskets and made cards to go in the baskets. Each basket had a market value of $72 and included a 12 or 13-pound turkey. This gift of food was made possible in large part by a grant from The Rotary Foundation and contributions from Dunwoody Rotarians, as well as contributions by friends and neighbors of the school. Our efforts were coordinated by Anita Augello. [more]
Jennie has been a member of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody for about 30 years. In her membership talk Friday, she said "I joined Rotary for business; I stayed because I found a group of community-focused individuals who put their money, the time, and their focus into doing good work for others. I found that Rotarians can be counted on to step up and make things happen - even when life is difficult."
In 2009, Jennie started her current career as a financial advisor with Edward Jones, after a 23-year management career in the staffing industry and five years with United Way. Her goal is to untangle and simplify money matters for her clients before and during retirement. Many of her clients are busy (careers, family, health issues) and need objective support of their financial plans. Jennie's role is to help them set goals and stay on track to reach the future they envision. [more]
Dunwoody Rotarian Charlie Augello, owner of East 48th Street Market, recently presented a check to the Dunwoody Police Foundation for $1,000, representing the results of the Market's October "Enjoy Pizza and Support Police" drive.
Charlie called the drive a winning proposition for all, “Our pizza sales increased by 65% and our customers welcomed the opportunity to salute the Dunwoody Police Department." He hopes this is a start for promoting similar win-win programs for future local merchants. [more]
