This weekend is all about family and friends - we wish you safe travel and a joyous Thanksgiving weekend. That said, we hope you will plan to join us next Friday, December 6 - and that you consider bringing family members or friends. There are two great reasons to do that:
Join us at 11 a.m. at the Dunwoody Country Club for the one of the best gatherings of the year for the Dunwoody Family of Rotary. Catch up with friends in the social hour that starts us off, then enjoy the sounds of the Dresden Sunshine Choir.
Dresden students have entertained us at the Holiday Luncheon for more than 15 years ... part of a long partnership in education that still includes a book for every child during the holiday student and has included English as a Second Language classes for parents, Character Education, Junior Achievement, citizenship awards and a joint project between students and Rotarians to collect coats and other items for the Atlanta Women and Children Day Shelter.
In keeping with our Holiday Luncheon traditions, we will recognize people for their recent contributions to The Rotary Foundation and present the report of our nominating committee for the 2020-21 Rotary Year.
Watch for an email invitation soon and RSVP. It's an event you won't want to miss.
Like Janet and I, you have probably been barraged with catalogs and ads for Black Friday deals. While I'm not necessarily advocating that you jump in line at 5:00 AM on Friday morning, I just want to remind you that some of those bargains can help to fill up our Toys for Tots tables at the upcoming Holiday Luncheon! So keep your eyes and wallets open to the possibilities!
For many years, Dunwoody Rotarians have been very generous in supporting local Marines in their Toys for Tots Drive. We want to make this the best year ever! So look for toys, bikes and games and bring them to the Holiday luncheon on December 13! With your generosity, we can make this holiday season the best yet for needy local youth!
The Rotary Club of Dunwoody lost a great Rotarian and friend late last week - Past President Mike Feeney. Mike was President of the club in 1997-98, the Rotary year that both President Cathie and I joined the club and the year that our own Bill Mulkey was District Governor. PDG Bill is working on a special tribute to Mike that we will include in next week's bulletin. Mike is survived by his wife Ann, his five daughters and many grandchildren and a great grandchild.
The family has suggested donations in Mike's memory to:
We also suggest you could pay tribute - whether you knew Mike or not - by diving head first into a Rotary project to serve the community or your fellow Rotarians and their families, because Mike always lived up to the RI theme of his year as President - Show Rotary Cares.
Philip Cohn is one of the newest members of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody. He owns and operates a State Farm agency serving Sandy Springs and Dunwoody. He served 10 years as a State Farm claims representative and is a second generation State Farm agent. He speaks fluent Spanish.
Philip is one of the founding member of Buckhead Bucks, a networking association. As one of the founding members, he has taken a leadership role in promoting the growth of small businesses in the Atlanta area. According to one of his associates there, we can expect to enjoy Philip's "unique energy, optimism and tireless creativity."
Take time to get to know Philip!
The Club website will be undergoing a major overhaul between now and February - thanks in part to some help I'm getting from one of our newest members - Darrin Vanderpan. Darrin has run a website hosting business in the past and will bring his skills and experience to this project! I'm delighted.
We hope to make the site more engaging - and to make it easier for you to quickly find the information you need there - still working within the District 6900 website platform. We have some ideas but need your help! Please drop me a email at cuthbert@mindspring.com with any ideas for things you'd like to see and the way you'd like to see them organized.
You will likely start to see some changes soon! Thanks for your patience through this process.
