MLK Weekend, January 16-18, 2015 marked the re-birth of the GRSP Leadership Conclave for the Rotary Club of Dunwoody with an investment of $12,500. Supported by the Rotary Club of Buckhead and GRSP, the conclave provides GRSP Students an opportunity to come together and learn about how Rotary makes an impact locally and globally. Over 50 Rotarians from the Dunwoody and Buckhead Clubs spent approximately 970 hours in planning, hosting students and dinners and facilitating sessions.
Dunwoody Rotarian Larry Hart led a session on Fierce Conversations, helping the students with communication skills vital to peace and conflict resolution discussions. Dunwoody Rotarians Anne Glenn and Roy Ehtridge presented International and Local projects and discussed how to develop resources and funding to make projects successful and sustainable.
The Metro Atlanta Rotaract Club led a workshop where students identified a need in the world and developed a sustainable solution to address that need. The GRSP students worked in small groups and presented their innovative ideas to the entire group, gaining feedback and insight on how projects are developed and made sustainable through volunteerism, training and partnerships.
In a change and innovation from previous conclaves where we painted murals for hospitals overseas, over 70 students, Rotarians and family members participated in a "Stop Hunger Now" program where meals were assembled and packed to help over 10,000 people globally.
GRSP students are the PR for this event as they return home and regularly promote GRSP, with special memories of their MLK weekend.
